SCHOOL
Most parents in our impoverished neighborhood can not pay the fees to put their kids in school. School costs increase each year, the further the students progress in school (High School and University cost much more than Elementary and Pre School). Amiguitos has promised its students that kids in need will have financial support as long as they study in school. We pay for enrollment costs, uniforms and supplies, with your help, to keep these kids in school.
CENTER
In addition to getting kids to school, we have found that their number one factor for success is to be fed. Our program has been serving our students a healthy meal everyday for over ten years. Prior to our feeding program, many students did not eat every day and their studies suffered. In addition to food, our center provides daily homework support and access to computers and a high speed internet connection under the supervision of our Computer Science faculty.
COMMUNITY
Parents have become more involved in their student’s education and have started to engage with each other as a result of Amiguitos programing at the community center. Currently 10 adults are studying in our higher education programs (4 at the University level). Amiguitos also supplies purified water to all of the families that are in the program as well as the surrounding schools, at no cost, which eliminates the number one cause of health problems. Our teenage students also run a bakery for the benefit of the neighborhood.
