Setbacks
Dear Friends (amiguitos) –
Our programs in Veracruz increased dramatically recently (50% increase to 140 students). Our students are succeeding with more students than ever in High School and University. However, we have lost sponsors over this time period of student growth. After using all of our reserves, Goldi and I have agreed to scale back our Amiguitos operations to fit a smaller budget. We have changed the following:
· Using direct appeals to fund Goldi's health support.
o Response to appeal for Goldi's health support has been limited so far and we hope for more support. For now:
o Pain medications only
o No cancer medications
o No cancer treatments
Meds/treatments will resume as funds arrive· After this term, we will suspend the University program and all students will leave the program. No new students will be funded.
· Feeding program is suspended (no longer feeding kids)
· Dismissed staff (Computers – Saul; Caretaker – Raul)
· No longer using the truck (Goldi using city bus)
The Amiguitos Board is increasing fundraising efforts. If you have an interested in helping with these efforts, please contact us here.
We are very sad to be taking these measures and we are very proud of our students. We are working very hard to regain funds and we hope to quickly restore our programs to previous levels and in the longer term expand our programs to even greater levels. Please keep our kids, staff, families and sponsors in your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate all of your support.
Sincerely,
Curtis Wait – Executive Director, Amiguitos
